The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed Shakhtar's claim against FIFA in the case of compensation for damage caused to the Donetsk club as a result of FIFA's decision to allow foreigners of the Ukrainian Championship to unilaterally suspend contracts with their employers.

This was reported on the official website of CAS.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, FIFA has decided to introduce a special transfer rule for foreign players from the UPL, as well as the Russian Championship. These players were allowed to unilaterally suspend their contracts with their clubs until June 2022. In June, FIFA extended the rule for another year, until June 2023..

Taking advantage of the new FIFA rule, almost all legionnaires left Shakhtar. Forward Lassina Traore became the only foreign player among those who played for the Pitmen before the start of a full-scale war, who decided to continue defending the colors of the Donetsk club.

Shakhtar claimed that the new FIFA rule caused economic losses for the club and appealed to CAS with a demand from the International Football Federation to pay damages in the amount of 50 million euros. However, the court decided to dismiss this claim, confirming the legality of the contested decision..

We add that CAS also rejected the appeal of Russian clubs on a similar issue..
