The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine will recommend to the Lavra Reserve not to renew the lease of two cathedrals in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Culture Alexander Tkachenko on the air of the telethon.

In the morning, the abbot of the Lavra, Metropolitan of the UOC-MP Pavel Lebed, complained in an address to President Volodymyr Zelensky that from January 1, his church would not be able to hold services in the Assumption and Refectory churches. Tkachenko confirmed that the term of the corresponding lease agreement for the cathedrals in the Upper Lavra really expires.

" We, in pursuance of the presidential decree on checking the state of affairs of the use of the property of the Lavra, will recommend, because we cannot order, such an agreement should not be extended,"

He clarified that worship services in the Assumption and Refectory Cathedrals would not be carried out at all until a special interdepartmental government commission completed the study of the issue of using these objects..

" Regarding other property, there are relevant agreements that are ongoing. They will be extended for the time being, until such a check is completed,"

In addition, the commission will examine the legitimacy of the use by representatives of the UOC-MP and the Lower Lavra. It will be determined whether violations were committed there, and then certain decisions will be made. Regarding this territory, an indefinite agreement was concluded with the church in 2013 - her monastery is located there..

Recall that earlier the Constitutional Court recognized the law on the renaming of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate as constitutional.. The church must indicate in its name belonging to Russia.

The confrontation between the UOC-MP and the Ukrainian authorities has reached a new level. As can be judged by some signs, the authorities, disappointed in the “peaceful settlement” of the problem of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine, switched to plan B.
