Two-time Olympic champion in canoeing Yuri Cheban sold his medals - the country's most titled rower put up for auction three Olympic medals, two of them of the highest grade, mined in 2012 and 2016 in London and Rio de Janeiro, and " The goal is to help the Armed Forces. The auction raised $100,000.

This is stated in the plot of TSN.

" It didn't go quite as planned, but quite well.. We tried to get attention through the American media. We were featured in The Washington Post, AP News, TMZ Sport. Earned more than 100 thousand and this is just the beginning. We didn't focus on price, but we wanted to raise more money. We were given an estimate of 150 thousand dollars. It turned out a little less, but we are grateful,” said the athlete.

According to him, it was a pity to part with his awards, but he understood that they could benefit the country.

" At some point, the country gave me good opportunities and I want to repay the same. These medals will still be useful. I am sure that my example can make many people do the same as I was inspired by Slava Medvedenko, who sold his awards at the same auction,"

Cheban added that he spoke with the future owner of these awards.

" He will also be able to return these medals and we will be able to put them in the NOC museum as things that were directly involved in the victory of Ukraine,"

The athlete also told what the funds will be oriented towards..

" These funds will go to all the needs that are now. There are a lot of needs and requests, but we can spend them on those things that we consider necessary and those people that we know.. We know those groups of people, the military, our rowers, who are now in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who need help,"

Recall that the former world boxing champion in eight weight categories Manny Pacquiao held an exhibition fight to raise funds for Ukraine.
