Illegal felling of Christmas trees: what fine can Ukrainians face

In Ukraine, before the New Year, a campaign for the conservation of coniferous plants begins. Despite the fines, people still try to break the law to take a free tree for the New Year. Agronews writes about this.

What is the fine for illegal tree felling?.

For each illegally felled Christmas tree, pine and other tree, the offender faces a fine depending on the size of the tree:.

in the forests - from 599 to 2709 UAH;

within the city and other settlements - from 1152 to 1852 UAH;

within the territories and objects of the natural reserve fund - from 908 to 4132 UAH.

According to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, illegal logging, damage and destruction of forest plantations and young growth entail a fine:.

for citizens - from 510 to 1020 UAH;

for officials - from 2550 to 5100 UAH.

For the destruction or damage of green spaces, individual trees outside the settlements and within them, not attributed to the forest fund, or their illegal felling of trees, entails a fine:.

for citizens - from 170 to 510 UAH;

for officials or individual entrepreneurs - from 510 to 850 UAH.

Persons wishing to cut down trees in the forests this year risk not only getting a fine, but also losing their lives - demining in the de-occupied territories has not been completed.
