President of the European Parliament Roberta Metzola and Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak called for support for the creation of an international tribunal for the political leadership of Russia.

“Without justice, without punishment for the aggressor, the world will not be free. He will be dominated by fear.. And from this fear, evil will become stronger. So the world needs justice,” said Yermak, speaking online at the Russian War Crimes exhibition in Brussels..

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the Ukrainian military has recorded more than 45,000 crimes related to Russian aggression, more than 31,000 of them are military.

At the hands of the occupiers, 380 children were killed and more than 700 were injured. Russian shelling completely destroyed 284 educational institutions, damaged 2,461 educational institutions.

And after the liberation of each new Ukrainian city or village, new tragedies may open up to the world..

“All war crimes have specific perpetrators - those who gave and carried out criminal orders. But the main culprits are those who started this war. The fact of the largest armed aggression in Europe since 1945 should receive a fair assessment from the world, as it was during the Nuremberg and Tokyo Tribunals after the end of World War II,” he added..

And the responsibility for the Russian Federation should be double: at the level of the state and the level of an individual citizen, the head of the OPU believes. It is also important to ensure the personal responsibility of the Russian leadership for the most serious initial crime - the crime of aggression..

For her part, Roberta Metsola said that the brutality of the war in Ukraine goes beyond all possible boundaries..

“Ukrainians suffer for the freedom of all of Europe. Therefore, Europe will help you to the last. And we, like you, demand that Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko be held accountable. Because autocracy is not something we in Europe can go back to.. Therefore, we will do our best to stop this,” Metsola said..

Ukraine has initiated and has been working for almost half a year on the creation of a special international tribunal that will try all the top leaders of the Russian Federation for military aggression against our state. The court can be established on the basis of an international treaty between Ukraine and other states, an agreement with the UN or an agreement with the EU or the Council of Europe.

Evidence of the fact of the crime of aggression against Ukraine will become the basis for a sentence - a long prison term up to life imprisonment. Its actual execution will become possible as soon as one of the defendants appears on the territory of the country that has acceded to the agreement on the establishment of the tribunal.

At the same time, Ukraine is actively cooperating with the International Criminal Court in The Hague.. According to Yermak, the creation of a special international tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine will complement the work of this court.
