Six months of war against Ukraine has become strategically harmful for Russia, says UK Ministry of Defense.
“Since 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin has tried to use a combination of force and coercive diplomacy to bolster Russian influence in Ukraine and interfere in its sovereign affairs,” writes British intelligence..
The British Ministry of Defense recalled that Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine six months ago with the aim of overthrowing the government and occupying most of the country. However, in April, Russian leaders realized they had failed and returned to more modest targets in eastern and southern Ukraine..
“The offensive in the Donbass is moving minimally, and Russia expects a large counterattack from Ukraine. The Russian army feels a shortage of ammunition, equipment and personnel. Morale in many military units is low, and the state of the army has deteriorated significantly, ”says British intelligence.
The British Ministry of Defense said that Russian diplomatic influence has decreased, and the country's long-term economic prospects are bleak.
“After six months, Russia’s war against Ukraine turned out to be expensive and strategically harmful,” summed up British intelligence.
