President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and. head of the SBU Vasily Malyuk.

Kostin and Malyuk will replace the dismissed head of the Security Service Ivan Bakanov and Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova, who were removed from the staff by the relevant decree. The document comes into force on August 4.

The appointment of Kostin as Prosecutor General was expectedly supported by the Verkhovna Rada on July 27. The Security Service of Ukraine has not yet received a new head.
