18-year-old Ukrainian Roman Popov won the silver medal in the modern pentathlon competition among youths under the age of 19.

Ukrainian athlete scored 1227 points in total. From the winner, the Frenchman Etienne Clerjot, Roman was separated by only 4 points.

In the first event - fencing - Popov earned 230 points (11th place). In swimming, the Ukrainian showed the sixth time - 2:01. 56 (307 points) and climbed into the top 5. The most successful for Popov was the decisive race. He covered the distance with the fourth time - 10:10. 02 (690 points), which allowed him to take the final second place.
