Ukrainian karateka won gold at the World Games

Ukrainian karateka Anzhelika Terlyuga won gold at the World Games in Birmingham, USA.

Ukrainian woman had no equal in the weight category up to 55 kg. It was her debut World Games.

At the group stage, the rivals of the Ukrainian were the 2017 World Games champion Valeria Kumizaki (3:3) from Brazil and the 2020 Olympic champion Ivet Goranova (3:0) from Bulgaria.

In the final, the Ukrainian minimally defeated the reigning world champion, Egyptian Ahlam Youssef (1:0).

Note that Terlyuga is the silver medalist of the 2022 Olympics in Tokyo.

The World Games are a kind of Olympics for non-Olympic sports.
