The Prosecutor General of Ukraine, on the basis of evidence collected by the State Bureau of Investigation, announced suspicion of high treason to People's Deputy of Ukraine Oleksiy Kovalev.

The State Bureau of Investigation noted that they opened criminal proceedings against People's Deputy of Ukraine Alexander Kovalev, who, after a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, is in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region and helps the occupying forces back in April.

During the investigation, it was established that in early July of this year, Aleksey Kovalev took the position of deputy chairman in the illegally created by the occupation administration of the aggressor state - the “government of the Kherson region”.

Also, on June 8, 2022, on his page on the social network, the people's deputy posted a publication about the alleged integration of part of Ukraine into the aggressor country in order to influence the public and manipulate consciousness.

“The actions of the suspect are qualified on the basis of. 2 st. 111 (high treason under martial law), h. 1 st. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (complicity with the aggressor state). Note that Alexander Kovalev is still a deputy. The Verkhovna Rada can deprive him of his deputy mandate only if he asks for it on a personal statement, or if the court passes a guilty verdict against him.
