Russian occupants caused serious damage to the housing stock of Mariupol, most of the bombed houses cannot be restored. It will take seven to ten years to rebuild the city, Mayor Vadim Boychenko said.

“Due to the war, 1356 multi-storey buildings were destroyed or damaged in the city. Also bombed 40% of private houses. Most of them are not subject to reconstruction. Therefore, the plans are to build new facilities,” he says..

Experts estimate the cost of restoring infrastructure at more than $14 billion for 220,000 people to live there.. The exact cost of restoration will be known after the de-occupation of the city.

The European Investment Bank and large Ukrainian businesses are ready to help rebuild Mariupol.

“Cooperating with various experts from cities destroyed during the Second World War. These are Gdansk, Warsaw, Dresden, Rotterdam. We study their recovery experience. We hope that there will be a separate section for Mariupol in the “Marshall Plan” for the whole country. I believe that together we will revive Mariupol and make it even better,” Boychenko adds..
