A 22-year-old native of Odessa is upset that many of her colleagues are more worried about the removal of representatives of the aggressor countries from the competition than the war in Ukraine.

" This is true. Taking points from all tennis players is not fair. And to be honest, I don't understand why all the players are happy with this.. Several players have said something that is wrong. I don’t know why many people won’t say a word, why they don’t say that this is unfair even personally in relation to themselves.

Compared to what is happening in Ukraine, more players are talking about the removal of Russians and Belarusians, and not about Ukraine. So it's very difficult to say who these players support, they support athletes from Russia and Belarus, or they support Ukraine.. I dont know. I think if they were suspended from competitions in other sports, I think it should be the same in tennis," org. ua.

Dayana also admitted that she misses her home and family, because she has not been in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion..

" This is where my sister trains.. Mom left Ukraine before Roland Garros. Dad was in Ukraine all the time and he left for only 12 days, he came to see me at Wimbledon, soon he needs to go back.

It's very hard not to come home for so long. This is the first time for me when I have been away from my city for almost 5 months, when I was not at home, I was not in Ukraine. And even though you adapt, you still want to return, because there is my home. I want to see grandparents. I want to stay at home for a little while. You get used to it, but it's still hard,"

It should be noted that Dayana was the only Ukrainian woman who could not overcome the first round of the Wimbledon-2022 main network.. In the opening match, Yastremska lost to Ana Bogdan from Romania - 2:6, 2:6. At the same time, Angelina Kalinina, Lesya Tsurenko and Marta Kostyuk continue to fight in the tournament.

Recall that Wimbledon became the first international tennis tournament that banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in individual competitions.. The tournament started on June 27th and will run until July 10th..

Wimbledon performances will not be awarded points this year. This decision was made by international tennis organizations - ATP, WTA and ITF, standing in defense of the suspended tennis players of the aggressor countries.
