The life of 46-year-old Aleksey Kupyrev was tragically cut short as a result of the terrible bombing of Mariupol by Russian invaders.

This was announced by the ex-president of the Boxing Federation of the Donetsk region Dmitry Eliseev.

According to him, Kupyrev died on March 8, 2022.. An enemy projectile flew into the apartment of a former boxer, who later worked as a referee. Alexei did not survive.

Kupyrev lived with his family in a multi-storey building. When the full-scale war broke out, he and his family hid from the bombs in the basement.. However, at one point Alexei left the shelter and went up to the apartment - it was at that moment that a shell hit the house, which killed him..

Note that Kupyrev was the European boxing champion among youth. After completing his boxing career, he worked as a referee and received an IBA license..
