Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced that Budapest's position on imposing a ban on the import of Russian oil has not changed despite lengthy negotiations within the EU.

HGV reports..

The Hungarian government does not support the imposition of an embargo against the Russian Federation. According to the Foreign Minister, the introduction of the 6th package of anti-Russian sanctions will undermine the Hungarian economy and its energy supply.

Oil from Russia satisfies 2/3 of Hungarian needs. The European Commission, after a week of debate, proposed to make an exception for Hungary and two countries and allow them to introduce an embargo gradually. However, the potential delay until 2024 did not satisfy Budapest. Hungarian authorities want a 5-year delay.
