The Netherlands and Australia will appeal to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to hold Russia accountable for its participation in the downing of the MH17 aircraft over the Donbass. This was reported in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the decision of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Australia to apply to the ICAO in accordance with the provisions of the Chicago Convention in order to hold the Russian Federation responsible for its participation in the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 in July 2014..
It is indicated that earlier Australia and the Netherlands jointly called on the Russian Federation to take responsibility for its role in the downing of flight MH17 in accordance with international law..
Negotiations on this issue between Australia and the Netherlands were terminated by the Russian Federation unilaterally.
“Not a single illegal act of the Russian Federation will go unanswered by the civilized world and international justice. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will continue to work on holding the Russian Federation accountable using all existing international legal mechanisms. The downing of flight MH17 is one of the subjects of a lawsuit to the International Court of Justice initiated by Ukraine in 2017. We hope for a speedy consideration of the case on the merits,"
