More than 6,000 women die in our country every year from cervical cancer, which is the second most common female oncological disease (after breast cancer)..

Fortunately, recently, Russian women have acquired a reliable way to protect themselves and their teenage daughters from this misfortune by being vaccinated against HPV, the human papillomavirus, which develops more than 70% of all cases of cervical cancer..

The floor is given to Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice President of the Association of Obstetricians? gynecologists of Russia, Director of the Moscow Regional Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vladislav Krasnopolsky.

Hidden threat.

Tatyana Guryanova, " What was the reason for its creation?

- The virus is curable?

- Unfortunately, there is no specific therapy for HPV: it is impossible to eliminate the virus from the body with the help of medications. Doctors can only remove genital warts, some of which can also cause cancer, and, if necessary, perform surgery to remove a dangerous area of \u200b\u200bthe mucous tissue of the cervix and / or vagina.

The only way to protect yourself and your daughter from these problems is preventive vaccination. Vaccination for daughter.

- As far as we know, HPV vaccination is not included in the National Vaccination Schedule of our country....

- Alas. In most regions of Russia, this procedure is paid and is carried out at the request of women. What can not be said about other countries of the world. Today 62 of them have included the vaccine against this infection in national immunization programs.. And everywhere, where it was carried out, the frequency of detection of genital warts, cervical cancer and precancerous conditions decreased tenfold.

In our country, the first such region was the Moscow region, where HPV vaccination became a regional program. In the 10 years that it has existed, we have managed to vaccinate about 20 thousand girls.

- What age?

- We vaccinate girls from 12-13 years old. And over the past two years, with the approval of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region, we have added to the program and vaccination of older girls - up to 17 years.

An encouraging result.

- It's no secret that the attitude towards vaccination in our country is ambiguous. HPV vaccine is no exception. From time to time in the media and on social networks there are publications that it allegedly leads to infertility....

- This information is not true. Suffice it to say that of the girls vaccinated with the recombinant HPV vaccine, which, by the way, does not contain either the virus or its fragments, but only its chemical analogue, 93 have already become mothers.

- Did you manage to achieve the main goal - to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer?

- Yes. In those regions of the Moscow region where the program is in place, gynecologists note a steady trend not only towards a decrease in the level of HPV infection, but also the incidence of condylomatosis (in girls under 17 years old, this indicator has decreased by 2 times).

As a result, instead of the estimated 7.5 thousand doses of vaccine, the regions of the Moscow region requested at least 20 thousand, and it was decided to extend the program itself until 2020. I hope that our example will be followed in other regions of Russia, and ultimately will introduce HPV vaccination into the National Vaccination Schedule. Young women shouldn't die of cancer these days.
