The University of Copenhagen has overfulfilled its own plan to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere: instead of the planned 65%, it reduced carbon dioxide emissions from energy and transport consumption by 70% compared to 2006.

First of all, the university succeeded due to the active development of online interaction formats (so that university employees can use less transport) and the transition from heating through heated air (for example, air conditioners) to heating with heated water.

In addition, the University of Copenhagen has taken several important steps for sustainable development.. Separate waste collection points appeared on several floors in several university buildings.. And in university canteens on Wednesdays they don’t serve meat and fish (the negative impact of livestock on the climate is much more serious than crop production).

To assess the level of greenhouse gas emissions, the university took into account two main indicators - how many emissions are directly attributable to the university’s infrastructure (heating and repair of buildings, laboratories, cooking in canteens, cleaning in buildings and in the territory, etc.), as well as how many harmful emissions.

The university noted that city authorities helped reduce harmful emissions, says Europuls. A significant part of the “personal contribution” of employees and students traditionally falls on the road to the university and home, and green public transport is developing in Copenhagen: buses are replaced by electric buses, and water trams are switched to electric motors.
