Investment banker Sergey Fursa shared his opinion on this situation. He noted that the resignation of Smoliy could lead to the devaluation of the hryvnia, and there is also a risk that Ukraine’s relations with the International Monetary Fund will deteriorate.

This is written by URA-Inform with reference to Ukraine 24.

" Today there was a mini panic in the foreign exchange market, which the National Bank had to extinguish by selling dollars from reserves. I think about $ 200 million was sold. Now the NBU’s independence itself is in jeopardy, and these panic sentiments in the interbank foreign exchange market are completely logical, ”he said..

He notes that changing the head of the NBU is a political decision, the authorities want the NBU to print money, and this will lead to its devaluation.

Sergei Fursa noted that during the signing of the memorandum with the IMF, the president of Ukraine promised that the NBU would be independent, but after receiving the tranche, Smoliy quits and this could be a blow to relations between Ukraine and the IMF.

We noted earlier that there are three candidates to replace Smoly.
