Labels like “hypoallergenic” or “at 99. 9% natural ”can be found today on the packaging of many moisturizers. However, in fact, the composition of most of these creams does not correspond to what is stated on the package: such creams can be dangerous, especially for people suffering from skin diseases, such as, for example, psoriasis.

A study by scientists at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine showed that many creams labeled “hypoallergenic” and “without fragrances” were actually not, and “recommended by dermatologists” products usually cost a lot more than similar creams.

As part of this study, published in the JAMA Dermatology journal, specialists examined the 100 most popular body moisturizers in the US. It turned out that 45% of creams supposedly not containing flavorings, in fact, flavorings (sometimes vegetable) contained. Moreover, 83% of “hypoallergenic” creams contained some potential allergen.. Only 12% of the funds did not have a single NACDG allergen.

The inscription “recommended by dermatologists”, according to the authors of the study, also does not mean anything, because 3 dermatologists or 1000 could “recommend” this cream.

If a person with problem skin begins to moisturize it with the wrong product, his skin condition may worsen, scientists say. If the cream, contrary to the labels on the package, contains allergens, its use can lead to a rash and other problems..

Scientists recommend that when choosing a moisturizer, look not at the inscriptions on the front of the package, but carefully read the composition.
