Scientists have found that treating atrial fibrillation can prevent Alzheimer's. This disease appears due to atrial contractions, which traps blood in them and leads to subsequent blood clots.. As a result, the patient has an increased risk of stroke, heart failure and death.

Scientists from the Institute of the US Medical Center examined 4200 patients aged 65 years. Which were treated for atrial fibrillation with catheter ablation.

This technique involves the insertion of a catheter through the femoral vein. Scientists compared the health status of these subjects, 16,800 patients of the same age and gender who were treated for atrial fibrillation with pills, and the same number of participants who did not have heart problems.

Research results showed that Alzheimer's disease developed in 0.2% of patients from the first group and 0.9% from the second. 0.4% of those who underwent ablation and 1.9% of those treated with medications developed other forms of dementia.

In addition, it was found that after ablation, the risk of strokes and death was significantly reduced in patients: strokes were recorded in 2.2% of participants from the first group and 4.7% from the second.

Scientists have a lot to learn, including the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease, but they are close to a solution.

Atrial fibrillation is a type of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias characterized by uncoordinated electrical activity of the atria with subsequent deterioration of their contractile function. On the ECG, characteristic features are the replacement of normal P waves with fast oscillations, or waves of fibrillation.
