The ability of food additives to thicken the walls of arteries in humans was announced by researchers from the University of Georgia (USA).
The experts came to this conclusion after conducting a large-scale study, in which more than 1,200 volunteers took part in whom changes in the density of arteries were detected. The main goal of the researchers was to find out the reasons that cause the compaction of arteries in almost every person in adulthood..
Scientists analyzed about 1200 combinations of different metabolites in the body of volunteers, and identified 27 of the most important factors that cause additional compaction, and are a kind of “beacon” indicating the likelihood of developing cardiovascular pathologies.
In addition, experts revealed a change in the level of metabolites in the presence of aggravating factors: smoking and low physical activity, which allowed the team of scientists to associate the use of dietary supplements and increased arterial density. So far, scientists do not undertake to say which dietary supplements affect the density of the walls of these vessels, but the fact that they have a negative effect on the vessels has been unambiguously established.
