Foreign volunteer fighters who fought in the Donbas for ATO / OOS forces and want to obtain a Ukrainian passport were provided with such a procedural mechanism.

Previously, volunteers from other countries were not able to obtain a residence permit in Ukraine, which is the first step to obtaining citizenship. Now the Cabinet has approved such a mechanism.

On June 6, 20101, the Rada adopted a law on the representation of citizenship to foreigners and stateless persons who fought in the Donbass for Ukraine. By law, these persons cannot be forcibly extradited to an aggressor country or to a country that supports aggression against Ukraine.
