Over the past few months, many customers at Amazon’s US online store have been debited from bank cards for purchases that they didn’t make.. They tried to complain about Amazon tech support, but there they couldn’t help with anything and assured that the goods referred to in the complaints were actually purchased and received by the addressee.
Users continued to understand this situation and some of them managed to find out that suspicious purchases were made from devices that were not in the authorized list in the account. However, mysterious devices were found in the account of the Amazon Prime video service - and in all cases they were smart TVs. It turned out that the cybercriminals somehow connected to the victim’s account through their “smart” TV and added it to the list of authorized devices.
After that, hackers could make online purchases on Amazon, but why Smart TV did not appear in the list of devices in the account is still unclear. Neither password change nor two-factor authentication could prevent unauthorized purchases.. Amazon has not yet commented on the incident, but insiders say the company is already conducting an internal investigation.
