Yesterday, the Verkhovna Rada renamed the Kirovograd district into Kropivnitsky.

231 MPs voted for the renaming order.

The decision to rename the district to Kropyvnytskyi was made in connection with the law on the condemnation of the communist and national socialist totalitarian regimes in Ukraine.

Earlier, deputies renamed the Kropyvnytskyi regional center Kirovograd, which was named after the communist Sergei Kirov, one of the organizers of mass repressions, including against Ukrainians. Rada also plans to make changes to the Constitution and rename the Kirovograd and Dnepropetrovsk regions under the law on de-communization.

Deputies have already sent to the Constitutional Court a draft decommunization of the Kirovograd region.

In June this year, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on State-Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government supported the proposal to rename the Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovograd regions to Sicheslavskaya and Kropyvnytsia.
