Scientists have discovered a mural in Pompeii depicting copulating Leda and Swan, according to the website of the Archaeological Park "Pompeii". Mural found in the bedroom of a residential building, which, presumably, belonged to a wealthy merchant. Earlier in the same house, researchers found an image of the god Priapus.

Archaeologists have found a fresco during the excavations of the V region of Pompeii. Prior to this, the area was explored only at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and about a quarter of its territory was excavated.. In 2018 alone, scientists found several electoral slogans in the V region, an inscription that more precisely dated the day of the eruption of Vesuvius and numerous murals.

A new find was the image of the mating of Leda with a swan - according to archaeologists, this plot was very popular in Pompeii.. According to the ancient Greek legend, Zeus, struck by the beauty of the Queen Sparta Leda, turned into a swan and seduced her (according to another version - he raped). Leda's husband also did not disregard her. As a result, Leda conceived four children, Elena and Pollydevka from Zeus, and Castor and Clytemnestra from her husband Tyndarey. All four became characters of other myths.. Helen, considered the most beautiful woman in the world, married the king of Sparta Menelaus, and her connection with the Trojan prince Paris caused the Trojan War. Clytemnestra became the wife of King Miken Agamemnon, and when he returned from the conquest of Troy, killed him. And Castor and Pollux made several exploits, including participated in the campaign of the Argonauts.

A mural depicting Leda and the swan was found in the V district of Pompeii, in a house standing on the street Vesuvius. She was in the bedroom, located next to the entrance corridor. In the summer, scientists found in it a mural depicting the god Priapus, holding a scale in his hand.
