French director Jean-Luc Godard refused to go to Russia because of the case of Oleg Sentsov, reports Agence France-Presse.

Godard handed a letter to the Society of French filmmakers and film magazine So film, addressed to Dmitry Ozerkov, Head of the Department of Contemporary Art of the Hermitage. It states that the director “has no right” to visit Russia because of the conclusion of his colleague, the Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov.. “At the moment I do not feel entitled to visit the Hermitage, despite my friendly attitude towards the Russian people,” the director wrote.

Why the museum invited one of the main representatives of the “new wave” of French cinema is unknown.

In August 2018, Jean-Luc Godard and another 119 French cultural figures signed an open letter calling for the release of Sentsov..
