The regional council is discussing the issue of reconstruction of the Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum.
The theme of the reconstruction of the glass extension to the museum building, which was erected in 2013, was touched upon at the on-site meeting of the standing commission on youth policy, sports, culture and tourism, MediaPort reports with reference to the press service of the Kharkiv Regional Council.
According to the director of the museum, Vladimir Tsigulev, the building of the museum is a monument of architecture “is destroyed due to the greenhouse effect, which appeared as a result of the glass dome superstructure.
The commissions showed a safe room, a repository of written sources and paintings. Museum staff claim that due to the attached glass cube, the air circulation is disturbed, “mold appears, walls and ceilings are destroyed”.
Commission members noted that the museum’s renovation plan needs to be changed.. The scope of work and costs will be clear after examination.. According to the deputies, urgent repairs need a roof, communications and ventilation system.
The town-planning council approved the project for the reconstruction of the Kharkov Historical Museum in August 2011.. Architects conceived to make an extension to the building and repaint it. Originally planned that the annex will be a museum of modern art. Reconstruction completed in 2013.
