WHO: every fourth inhabitant of the Earth is a potential carrier of tuberculosis infection

The World Health Organization has sounded the alarm because of the spread of the most deadly infectious disease on Earth - tuberculosis.

Physicians called for urgent measures to counteract. This is stated in the WHO report. Only in 2017, ten million people became infected with tuberculosis and 1.6 million people died from it.

The disease still remains dangerous among all infections, outstripping the syndrome of acquired immunodeficiency, the Observer notes..

At the same time, WHO reported that since 2000, 54 million people have been prevented from dying from this disease.

According to medical experts, on the Earth an increasing number of people develop a resistant form of tuberculosis when the disease does not respond to rifampicin, which is the main antituberculous drug.

WHO has been warned that every fourth inhabitant of the Earth is a potential carrier of tuberculosis infection.
