Such a diagnosis as a "flying disk" does not exist AND. Minister of Health of Ukraine dispelled the myth of the "flight" of intervertebral discs. This was written by Uliana Suprun on her Facebook page.
Suprun explained that the structure of the human spine absolutely excludes the possibility of "flying out" or "shifting" the disk in the spine, and there is no such diagnosis as a "departing disk".
"Perhaps you've heard of a" departing "or" displaced disk "in the spine. But can the disks fly out, and most importantly, can they then be put in place? The structure of our spine completely excludes this possibility. Therefore, if you were offered or offered to put the disk in place, be cautious. After all, the diagnosis "ejecting disk" does not exist. Intervertebral disks are not simply inserted into the spine like washers. They are very tightly connected to the spine, in fact are one with it, so they can not simply move or fly out in the process of our daily activity. Accordingly, they can not be put in place or corrected, "- wrote Suprun.
At the same time, according to her, a characteristic crunch at the so-called disc insertion produces intervertebral joints.
"What then clicked in the back, when the manual therapist seems to be directing me the disk? "In fact, a crunch or clicks produce intervertebral joints (and in the thoracic region also rib-vertebral joints)," explained Suprun.
She clarified that individual fragments of the inner core of the disk can be displaced due to cracks in the fibrous ring - the results of disc herniation, but in this case it is impossible to return these fragments back.
According to her, the relief that patients can feel after such manipulations may be the result of eliminating a muscular spasm.
