Both wars - in Ukraine and Syria - would have stopped long ago if the Kremlin wanted. This opinion was expressed in an interview with the German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas.

According to him, the Middle East armed conflict "would probably have ended long ago if the Russians and others had worked on this goal". At the same time, the Minister believes, the same situation exists in Ukraine.

Maas is far from optimistic in both cases, but said that Berlin is trying to resolve both conflicts "with the help of diplomacy," notes liga. net.

In his opinion, the full-scale assault on the insurgent province and the city of Idlib in Syria did not begin yet simply because the FRG and its allies discourage Moscow from this, and Turkey will not agree with Russia on some aspects of the operation.

In addition, according to Maas, there is still no specific US request for German participation in the "retaliation strike" of the allies after a possible new chemotherapy in Syria.

The head of the German Foreign Ministry is convinced that Russia is still not interested in continuing the Syrian war, but without the support of the West, neither she nor Turkey and Iran will spend money on the restoration of the country destroyed in seven years. According to the minister, on the table Putin has clear conditions when the West will render such assistance.
