The international badminton tournament finished in Kharkiv

The awards were given to the winners and prize-winners of the competitions by the deputy chairman of the Kharkiv regional state administration Anatoly Babichev.

From 29 August to 2 September in Kharkov hosted the European Cup in badminton - the international tournament RSL Kharkiv International - 2018.

According to the Office of Youth and Sports of HOGA, about 200 athletes from 34 countries took part in the competition. The strongest composition was made by Ukrainian sportsmen, including Kharkovites, who won three bronze medals in their native walls.

In the men's single category, the bronze medalist was Artem Pochtarev. Kharkov won from rivals from Holland and India, but lost in the semifinals to 21:19, 10:21, 11:21 to Czech Jan Loud, who eventually took first place.

In the mixed pair category, the third place was taken by Valery Atrashchenkov and Elizaveta Zharkaya. On the way to the medal, they defeated rivals from the Czech Republic, then - Ukrainian couple Artem Pochtaryov and Natalia Wojciech, and then won against badminton players from India. Valery and Elizabeth were close to reaching the final, but Pavel Smilovsky and Magdalena Svirchinskaya lost the Polish duet with a score of 21:16, 21:23, 20:22. As a result, Kharkovites shared third place with another Czech couple. Their opponents in the semi-final - the Poles - won silver awards, losing in the finals to athletes from India Saurabh Sharma and Anushke Parih.

Another bronze medal Kharkov badminton players won in the women's paired category. Elena Prus along with the badminton player from Nikolaev Julia Kazarinova reached the semifinals, defeating rivals from Hungary, Ukraine and India. The future winners of the tournament - the Swedish badminton players Amanda Hogstrom and Clara Nystad, who won 21: 8, 21:11.

Also winners of the Kharkov stage of the European Cup were: Ozge Bayrak - from Turkey (in the single female category) and Kugu Garg and Ningshi Khazarik's block - in the male pair category.

During the awarding ceremony, Anatoly Babichev conveyed congratulations from the head of HOGA to Yuliya Svetlichnaya and together with the president of the Badminton Federation of Ukraine Alexey Dniprov awarded the winners and prize-winners of the competitions.
