In Australia, a study has been conducted that proves that low-calorie sweeteners do not contribute to weight loss, but, on the contrary, increase appetite and cause a person to eat more caloric foods.

Experiments with animals have shown that when eating food with sugar substitutes, the brain underestimates its caloric value, and in order to fully saturate, it is necessary to increase the amount of food. For 5 days, the animals that were fed food with sweeteners, ate 30% more food than when feeding with food with sugar.

With prolonged feeding with low-calorie sweetened foods, the animals even had symptoms of starvation: insomnia, decreased sleep quality, and hyperactivity. Scientists are sure that the received data are valid for people, so substituting sugar with sucralose and other substitutes can not be recommended as a way to combat excess weight.
