On August 12, in the Kazakh city of Aktau (former Shevchenko) on the shore of the Caspian Sea, an agreement was signed on the division of the largest lake on the planet. The convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, signed by the leaders of the five countries, established clear rules for the collective use of the Caspian Sea.

The "Caspian Five" went to this long 22 years. And here in the Palace of Friendship of Peoples, which is also symbolic, the signing took place. "The Convention clearly regulates the issues of necessary delimitation, navigation and fishing regimes, fixes the principles of military-political interaction of the participating countries, guarantees the use of the Caspian Sea exclusively for peaceful purposes and the non-presence of the armed forces of extra-regional powers at sea," said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The exact boundaries will be discussed and fixed, divide the bottom so that it suits everyone, not just. But only the bottom of the Caspian Sea is divided. The issues of navigation, scientific research, fishing, laying of main pipelines were resolved. And one more important question: in the Caspian there will be no armed forces of other countries. "The Constitution of the Caspian Sea" called the document the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. He hopes that the Convention will guarantee the security and stability, prosperity of the region.

The signing took place on the international day of the Caspian Sea. Leaders of Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Iran signed the Convention, and on the Aktau embankment (White City) fishermen threw fishing rods.

The Convention also stipulates the mandatory responsibility for the environment. The moratorium on sturgeon fishing has been extended. While valuable breeds of fish are grown predominantly artificially.

A number of international industry agreements have also been signed. In particular, the project to create an international corridor "North-South" was stipulated, which provides for the development of rail, road and ferry services, which will allow 2.5 times faster deliveries.

The Caspian Sea is a huge oil and gas field. Only proved reserves are estimated at 20 billion tons. Kazakhstan extracts uranium from Mangyshlak. It was for this purpose that Aktau was built in its time - a city where there are no sources of fresh water.

Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov believes that the joint efforts of the five countries will be an important factor of stability and security in the region, and the Caspian will forever become a zone of peace and good-neighborliness.

For Iranian leader Hasan Ruhani, it was very important to enlist the support of his colleagues in defending the Iranian nuclear deal.

At the summit, the leaders also met in an informal atmosphere. At the end of the meeting, the head of Kazakhstan on the rights of the host invited guests to take a walk along the embankment of the White City. They inspected a new tourist site - the "Rocky Path", 500 belkovs of beluga.
