In Lviv on the territory of the Polish military graves ("Memorial eaglets") a group of young people tried to damage wooden shields around the sculptures of lions, ZAXID reports.. NET.

According to the director of the Lychakiv cemetery, Mikhail Nagai, at 16:30 about 12 young people began to disassemble the wooden shields that cover the sculptures of two lions near the arch at the entrance.

"They damaged the shields, snatched whole pieces and moved to the entrance. Already at the entrance of these people tried to detain our protection. However, the men managed to escape through the gates and there they began to scatter wherever they went, "Nagai said..

Later, police together with the cemetery guard managed to detain one of the provocateurs.

"This person in Polish said that he decided to" release the lions ". This is absolutely unacceptable behavior, which otherwise can not be called a provocation, "said the director of Lychakiv Cemetery.

The identity of the detainee and the motives for the act are established.

It is noted that two historical sculptures of lions were returned to the cemetery of Orlyat in December 2015. Lions guarded the entrance to the cemetery from the south side. One of them had the inscription "Always Faithful" on the shield, the other one - "To You, Poland". On one of the shields was also the coat of arms of Poland, on the other - the coat of arms of Lviv. Sculptures from the cemetery removed Soviet power in the seventies of last century.

After the export, the historical lions were in two places: along the road at the exit from Lvov to Vinnik and Kulparkov near the psychiatric clinic.

The return of lions to the cemetery of Orlyat in 2015 led to a political scandal, as the transportation was carried out at the initiative of the Polish Ministry of Culture without agreement with the relevant Ukrainian authorities. Since then, the sculptures have been covered with wooden shields.
