Aerobic exercises, including walking on foot are considered extremely useful for health promotion - it is often possible to hear specific recommendations on walking tours with a length of at least 10,000 steps a day. But British health experts came up with the idea that while walking and being useful, it is not enough to preserve health.
The UK Public Health experts, together with the charitable Center for the Improvement of Aging, analyzed the data of existing studies on the effectiveness of physical activity and came to an ambiguous conclusion. The researchers said: thanks to the efforts of doctors walking is becoming more popular - but people still do not follow the advice to stand more often and rarely sit, and ignore the strength exercises.
Scientists recall that the muscles of our body reach their peak at the age of 30, but without the necessary physical exertion to 40 years, muscle tone decreases. To the elderly, the weakening of muscle mass is already critical - the risk of falling and getting fractures for this reason rises immediately by 76%.
Authors of the work insist: just walking in order to stay healthy is not enough - exercises for muscle training are necessary. According to them, in this regard, it can even be useful to carry heavy shopping bags in their hands.
"Strengthening the muscles with exercise not only helps prevent falls and fractures, but also reduces back pain, improves mood, sleep patterns, increases energy levels, and reduces the risk of early death. Along with walking, all adults should strive to do exercises to strengthen and balance twice a week, "- says the researchers.
