Croatia's victory over Russia at the World Cup 2018 literally drove the mind of the southern European country. In order to see the triumph personally, even the leader of Croatia, Colinda Grabar-Kitarovich, flew to Sochi. After the final whistle, she went to celebrate success with the players. A video of the celebration, at which the Croatian President jumps for joy along with the players, she published on her Facebook page. The player of the Croatian national team Marco Piaz also published a photo in his Twitter where Grabar-Kitarovich, dressed in the national team's jersey, congratulates the athletes on the victory. She followed the game from the VIP-box together with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, as well as the president of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino. Earlier, the Croatian leader said that she flew to Sochi for the match of the quarter finals of the 2018 World Cup by regular flight, writes the publication Slobodna Dalmacija. Recall, after the match, a scandal broke out caused by a video on which Croatian national defender Domagoi Vida dedicates the victory over Russia to Ukraine, for which he spoke earlier. He was joined and coach of the national team Ognjen Vukojevic. For such "unsportsmanlike conduct" the Croatian player received a warning from the International Football Association.
