The authorities of the city of Cesena, which is in northern Italy, decided to motivate people financially to refuse to move on private vehicles in favor of cycling.
Those who will go to work and work on bicycles will receive 25 cents per kilometer of the way. However, the ceiling of payments is set - the amount can not exceed 50 euros per month or 2.5 euros per day, according to Il Messaggero.
This experiment, developed by the Ministry of the Environment, will last until November 2018. And according to the results it will be decided whether it is worth applying such financial incentives throughout Italy. A total of 90 thousand euros were allocated for the pilot program.
Determine the distance that residents have overcome on bicycles by giving up cars, there will be a specially developed free application for smartphones. To participate in the program, residents of Cesena must fill out an application in the municipality.
