Legendary Kiev stadium celebrated its 85th anniversary.
June 12, 1933, the opening of the Kiev Dynamo Stadium, and today the legendary arena celebrated its 85th anniversary.
The decision to build a large sports stadium in the greenhouse of the former Tsarsky Garden was made in October 1930. Nearby there was already a field where Dynamo club teams were practicing and playing. Its opening was postponed twice because of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 and it took place only on June 12, 1933.
Seats were 18 thousand, although in general the arena could take another five. However, the holiday was visited by almost twice as many people. On this day in the arena the final match of Ukrainian Dynamo was held: the teams of Kiev and Kharkov competed. The victory with the score 2: 1 was won by the hosts.
In memory of the legendary coach of the Kiev team Valery Vasilievich Lobanovsky the arena was later named Dynamo named Valery Lobanovsky.
