From Ramon Calista expected great achievements - and he achieved them, but in a completely different industry.
The once promising pupil, Manchester United was called the "new Ryan Giggs," and he trained in the main team with guys like Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.
Ramon did not work out with the "red devils", and he went to Liverpool, where he became the best scorer of the reserve team.
Because of the lack of chances to break into the foundation, Calista took advantage of the advice of the then head coach of the Wales team and in 2006 went to Scunthorpe.
However, there happened a cruel turn of fate. During the first preseason match for Scunthorpe, he dislocated his ankle, crushed his bone and severely damaged the ligaments.
After rummaging through clubs like Farnborough and Cambridge, Ramon realized that he would not return to his former level.
Therefore, Caliste switched attention to the clock. In 2013, he opened Global Watches - a company that sells watches - such as Rolex, Audemars Piguet and Hublot.
Business Ramona brings him roughly 5 million pounds a year, and among his clients - footballers, celebrities and other bucks.
"When I realized that football will not feed me, that I decided that I need to move on and try something different. I got carried away for hours, using my contacts from the world of football, "- said Kaliste Sun.
"As soon as I saw that it could become a profitable business, I founded Global Watches, which became a strong company with a million turnover. I want it to continue to grow, and after 5-10 years - selling it, as it recently happened with Watchfinder ".
Ramon admits that at that time he was an absolute beginner in business. But he was helped by a notebook. There were a lot of players in it who trusted him because of his acquaintance during the gaming career.
"Managing any business is very difficult. When you deal with valuable goods, this is due to many complexities. We do everything according to the letter of the law, it is very important that there is transparency ".
"I was lucky that this business from the very beginning was very seductive. Some of our watches sold for 250 thousand pounds ".
"My football past also helped. I sold watches to players, they trusted me. Even today, when customers appear online, they see that it's me and they are comfortable buying from me ".
"Perhaps there are more powerful companies than mine. But my playing past helps business ".
"We have a very good service, we are very nice to all customers, not just footballers. It all began with an office in Mayfair. Now we have a store in North London. When dealing with footballers who have tens of millions, it is better to take care of everything. They need good service, and it helps sell ".
"I have a great relationship with the players, I know that they are looking for".
Ramon admits that on a typical day they sell watches for 50-70 thousand pounds. But sometimes there are also for 150-200 thousand, when it comes to collectible samples.
"My clients have the opportunity to earn money on my watch if they want to sell them in the future. I consider myself a consultant. I know the clock from the inside, and so I advise my client that buying ".
"Sometimes they come to me with wishes, and I'm saying straight out, a good idea or a bad one. I do not want anyone to lose a lot of money when they want to sell their watches ".
Looking to the future, Ramon hopes to open more stores to make his company world famous. He also hopes to take up real estate and retire from business in 50 years. Now he does not regret his football career.
"Scout Manchester United Tony Hopkins followed me two years when I was in Cardiff".
"First I signed a contract with Coventry, but was not happy there. I was called to the Wales team U-19 when I was 13, but Coventry did not let me play. I think they were afraid that someone will see how I play and will be impressed ".
"So I waited until the end of the contract, returned to school, and in 2000 moved to Manchester United. At Old Trafford I met with Sir Alex Ferguson and it was unforgettable. I saw everything for the first time, I went into the famous room, where he met everyone ".
"It was something special. There was an aura of a great man ".
Ramon did not play for the first team of Manchester United, but he had the opportunity to train with the stars of the "red dyvols". Several times he played in training with Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.
"We did not always train with the first team, but sometimes we played five-on-five games. I always wanted to train with them, and when such a chance fell, it was amazing. Being close to Rooney and Ronaldo is something amazing ".
He also saw the potential of Gareth Bale when he was just starting his career.
"I remember seeing Gareth Bale in the Wales U-21 team when we were training at Wrexham. After training we had free time, and he practiced free-kick. Even then it was clear that this is a special football player. It was great to play next to him and some of the best players in the world ".
After retiring from United Ramon played for the reserve team of Liverpool. In the 2005/06 season, he was their top scorer, but then went to Scunthorpe to play for the first team.
"Initially, I did not want this, but the coach of Wales Toshak said that I need to play in official matches if I want to play for the national team. I thought, "Let's try" and signed a contract. But immediately at the beginning of the preseason, I was injured and never left this injury ".
Ramon admits: "I still have problems with that ankle. I visit a specialist on a regular basis. Perhaps I will have to do one more operation. If I were injured in Manchester United or Liverpool - I think everything would be alright. But it happened in Scunthorpe, and I do not think I got proper medical care ".
In 2009, Ramon decided that he had enough after the performances for Cambridge City and West London Saracens. By the mid-2000s, his heart was no longer there.
"After returning I had to think about becoming a semi-professional. It was not for me. To be located practically at the very top, and then to be at the bottom of the pyramid - it was against my nature ".
"If I participate in something, I want to be in this best. At that point, I thought that football was just entertainment, and I need to do real life. In the end, football was just not for me ".
"With all my talents, it was not my destiny. Otherwise, I would not have met my wife, my children would not have been born, because I would not have been in London at the time I was there ".
"And this is the most important thing for me. In life, a lot of obstacles have to be overcome, but I do not regret anything - it's taught me a lot. And I still have a lot of friends from the football world, although he was not for me ".
