Scientists from the University of Aarhus revealed a new danger that plastic bottles carry in themselves. As it turned out, styrene, which is widely used in the manufacture of a variety of plastic products, has a significant carcinogenic potential, causing cancer in humans. This assumption was confirmed by two large-scale studies that confirmed the status of styrene "most likely carcinogenic".

In the course of the research, specialists analyzed data of 73 thousand people who worked on the production of plastic products that had direct contact with styrene at enterprises. After analyzing a huge array of medical data, scientists came to the conclusion that during 15 years of exposure to styrene on humans, the risk of myeloid leukemia, a type of blood cancer.
