Finland proposes to include in the UNESCO list of intangible heritage Finnish sauna and folk music traditions of violin playing in the Kaustinen community.

This is reported by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Museum Department, writes yle. fi.

The Finnish bath traditions are to be presented as Finland's first presentation on UNESCO's list of "Intangible Cultural Heritage" in March 2019, and the tradition of spiers from Caustineen a year later.

The folk musical traditions in the Kaustinen community in the Central Pohyanmaa region represent a special style of violin playing by the so-called hairpins - folk musicians who performed at weddings and other village festivals. Now these traditions are actively supported, in particular, thanks to the festival of folk music Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, which is held every summer for more than 50 years.
