In the province of Deir-az-Zor, near the town of Mejadin, several Russians were killed. Militants from among the groupings, the so-called moderate opposition, on several off-road cars equipped with large-caliber weapons, went on the offensive in the dark, when a significant part of the Syrian military went on vacation.

Remaining on the battery, the Syrians, along with seconded Russians, took the fight, which lasted about an hour. Killed in place two Russians who controlled the conduct of fire. Another five Russians were injured and promptly taken to a Russian hospital, but two doctors could not be saved. Data on the dead Russians vary. Some media call up to nine people, because apart from the seconded military on the battery there were employees of PM Wagner. In the province of Deir-az-Zor, fighters of the private military company Wagner are often guarded by oil rigs.

During the battle, 43 militants were killed and six cars with weapons installed on them.

All Russian servicemen are presented to state awards.
