In a frenzied news race of recent days, it was easy to miss the fact that the leaders of North and South Korea are going to go down in history and, perhaps, finally to reconcile the countries that are fighting de jure with each other for sixty-eight years.

Now we fill this gap.

Here's what you should know: On April 27, the leaders of North and South Korea - Kim Jong-un and Mun Zhe Ying - will meet in rare conversations face to face in Panmunjom, the so-called armistice village, through which the border of their countries passes.

US President Donald Trump "blessed" Mun and Kim to discuss a formal end to the Korean War. An armistice, but not a peace agreement, was concluded at the end of hostilities in 1953.

The meeting between Kim and Moon sets the tone for Trump's personal meeting with Kim in late May or early June. It in itself will become history, as the first-time US president will meet with the leader of the DPRK.

Here are six facts you should know.

Who is Moon Zhe Ying?.

Mun Zhe Ying - democratically elected president of South Korea. His father was a refugee from North Korea. In the past, the human rights activist, Moon is in the left-centrist Democratic Democratic Party. He was elected President of South Korea on May 27, 2017 in early elections, organized after thousands of protests with candles against his predecessor, Pak Kun He. After the corruption scandal, Pak was dismissed by the impeachment procedure.

Moon for many years does not depart from the determination to correct inter-Korean relations.

In 2017, the Atlantic Council awarded the Moon the Peace Prize. At her presentation in New York on September 19, 2017, Moon made a speech in which he confirmed his desire to "achieve peace on the Korean peninsula for peace on the whole planet".

"I am sure that after the establishment of peace on the Korean peninsula, a time will come when historians will discuss how South Korea managed to achieve it," he said..

Who is Kim Jong Un?.

Kim Jong Un is the third generation in the generation, ruling North Korea completely and absolutely. He is the son of the opera singer Ko Yong He and Kim Jong Il, who ruled the DPRK for over 25 years, until his death in 2011. Kim Jong-un's grandfather Kim Ying-sen led North Korea from the day of its founding in 1948 until his death in 1984.

It is believed that Kim Jong-yun was almost thirty when he inherited the country from his father. the exact age of the dictator is unknown, different sources call 1982 or 1983).

Over the past year, Kim Jong-un has conducted several provocative missile and nuclear tests. He even threatened the United States with a nuclear attack.

Not so long ago between Trump and Kim took a long exchange pejorative remarks. The US president called Kim "a small missile", while the leader of the DPRK spoke of Trump as "brain-damaged American old man".

When Trump and Kim planned to meet to discuss possible nuclear disarmament of the Korean peninsula, the US president said that his North Korean counterpart was "very worthy".

Why is the meeting between Moon and Kim historic?.

April 27 Kim crosses the border of South Korea, heading for talks with Moon. A small step for Kim will be a huge leap for inter-Korean relations. He will become the first leader of the DPRK, which will be on the territory of South Korea since the end of hostilities in 1953.

Why are they fighting Korea?.

The phase of military operations in the Korean War lasted from 1950 to 1953. In this war, which ended in a deadlock for all sides, more than 33,000 US military personnel were killed. The DPRK, the United States and China agreed on an armistice in 1953, South Korea refused to sign the document.

The truce was supposed to support the cease-fire regime until a "final peace agreement". A peace agreement has never been signed, so technically both Koreans are still fighting each other.

What is the demilitarized zone?.

The demilitarized zone, known as the DMZ, was established under the Korean Armistice Agreement. This strip of land one hundred and sixty miles long covers the Korean Peninsula along the 38th parallel. It serves as a buffer between two states. The territory adjacent to the DMZ is guarded by the most fortified border in the world.

What's on the agenda?.

Moon wants to negotiate with Kim a peace treaty to formally end the Korean War. The signing of this treaty will require the participation of the United States and China, who also took part in this war and signed a peace agreement.

Nuclear disarmament of the Korean peninsula is another major topic of the day.

In the past, the DPRK put a condition for its nuclear disarmament to leave the 30,000-strong American contingent from South Korea. If you believe Mun, the DPRK has agreed to no longer set this condition.

The meeting of Moon with Kim should be preceded by a meeting between Trump and Kim, the exact date and place of which has not yet been determined.
