French President Emmanuelle Macron said he hoped for the return of the United States to the Paris Agreement on Climate.
He said this during a speech in the US Congress, reports NV referring to The Telegraph.
"I am sure that someday the United States will return and join the Paris agreement ... I believe in the creation of a planet for our children, which in 25 years will be suitable for life," said the French leader.
At the same time, he stressed that in the issue of the balance between industry and climate change it is necessary to find a compromise.
"Let's face it, Planet B does not exist," he said..
Recall that in June 2017, US President Donald Trump announced the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on Climate. According to Trump, climate change is a "far-fetched" problem.
The agreement aimed at combating global warming was adopted in December 2015 in Paris. 195 countries-participants of the agreement committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to prevent an increase in the average annual temperature in the world by more than two degrees Celsius. Ideally, the average temperature increase should not exceed one and a half degrees. At the same time, each of the countries should independently determine its policy on reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
The Paris Agreement obliged the United States to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 26-28% by 2025 compared to 2005 levels.
For the agreement to enter into force, it must pass the ratification in 55 countries, which together generate a minimum of 55% of the world's greenhouse gas.
