"On national identity.
Russia burned national self-consciousness of Ukrainians for centuries. The ban on the Ukrainian language, Russification, the church, falsified history, rabid propaganda, mass shootings of nationally-oriented Ukrainians and the national elite, the Holodomor, eviction to Siberia and the settling of Ukraine by non-Ukrainians, etc. - all this burned out and cleared out the national identity. In order for Ukraine not to have a base for withdrawing from Russia's protectorate.
But, as in the Baltic countries, physically Russia could not do it 100%. Even if 15% of the national self-consciousness in Ukraine remained in 1991 (memory of UPA heroes, language, culture), this part of Ukraine did the Maidan in 2004. Then its sprouts grew further and Ukraine withdrew from the Russian zone. The war of 2014-. added to these 15% another 40-50 percent.
In Ukraine, anti-imperial maidans, as Ukraine is historically, culturally and mentally - a European country. The call of ancestors and those 15% did history.
So, in Armenia and Belarus, unlike Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, even close to these 15%.
A long way to come ", summed up Ponomarev.
