Western countries found a mechanism to bypass Russia's veto in the UN Security Council, writes NV referring to The Guardian.
According to the publication, the Allies drew attention to the rarely used precedent - the 1950 resolution "Unity for Peace", adopted during the Korean War.
The resolution was adopted in case the UN Security Council can not exercise its powers in the field of security because of disagreements between permanent members.
It allows nine of the 15 members of the Security Council to bypass the veto (in this case - the Russian - Red. ) to refer any issue to a general vote at the UN General Assembly. For his approval, two thirds of the General Assembly.
As the newspaper writes, the discussion of the prospect of using the resolution was held in Sweden, at a meeting of the United Nations Permanent Representatives, in the context of a permanent Russian veto on Syria.
The intensification of the allies is also due to the fact that Russia refused to support the investigation of the last chemical attack, even after the air strikes of the United States, Britain and France on military installations in Syria.
On 7 April, as a result of a chemical weapons attack in the city of the Duma in East Gut (suburb of Damascus), at least 85 people were killed.
The US blamed the attack on Russia and Syria. Russia believes that the chemical attack was a staging with the participation of foreign special services.
