Representatives of 19 advocacy groups from the US and the Center for Digital Democracy complained about YouTube's video hosting to the State Federal Trade Commission. The authors of the popular site were accused of illegally collecting confidential information about children under the age of 13, reports CNN.
According to the claimants, representatives of YouTube violated the law on the protection of children's privacy online. It states that the company is obliged to obtain consent from the parents to collect data on schoolchildren before the age of 13.
The thing is that on video hosting only people over 13 can be registered, but nobody prevents the children from simply ticking off the corresponding line and continue to use the site unhindered.
Lawyers believe that YouTube collected information on more than 23 million children. Representatives of video hosting face a fine of more than 41 million dollars.
