American scientists have found that smoking people are prone to eating foods with high energy density more than those who tied with a bad habit or do not smoke at all.

To this conclusion, the researchers came, having analyzed the data of more than five thousand people.

It is specified that the energy density (EP) of food is an indicator of the ratio of caloric content to the weight of the product. For example, in fat, nine calories per gram, and in fiber two calories per gram. In the first case, EP is high, in the second - low.

Scientists concluded that smoking people consume about 2.02 kilocalories per gramme of food, and non-smokers 1.79. In the diet of non-smokers, there are more vegetables, fruits and foods high in fiber - cereals and nuts.
