Three out of four Russians are supporters of nuclear energy. To such conclusions came in the "Levada Center" after the appropriate survey. The overwhelming majority of citizens - 73.9% - think that nuclear power in our country should be developed or at least preserved the generation at the current level. And more than half - 50.3% of respondents - are convinced that nuclear energy is one of the most "green", that is, an environmentally friendly type of electricity production. The survey was conducted on a representative sample of the population in all federal districts of Russia. It is noted that the majority of nuclear energy supporters live in St. Petersburg - 82.4%, in the Urals - 80.3%, in Moscow - 77.2% and in the Volga region - 75.3%. This is despite the fact that, according to international criteria, at least half of the population support of nuclear energy is considered to be a high indicator. In Russia, citizens have long ago determined their opinion on this issue: "The survey data not only this year demonstrate the support of the majority of the population of nuclear energy. Over the last three years, measurements that we have done twice a year show that the support for this type of energy is steadily maintained at a fairly high level. Three quarters of the surveyed population, both this year and in previous years, believe that it is necessary to develop nuclear energy, or at least keep its production in current volumes, "RIA Novosti quotes the comment of Lyudmila, the deputy director of the Levada Center Khakhulina. There are currently 10 nuclear power plants in Russia, where 35 power units are located with a total installed capacity of 27.9 gigawatts. Two more previously launched power units are being prepared for industrial operation with a total installed capacity of 2.2 gigawatts. The largest generating company in Russia is the state corporation "Rosatom". In 2017 year. it ensured the production of almost 203 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is the fifth part of the total power generation in the country.
