The President of Poland apologized to the Jews for the events of 1968

President of Poland Andrzej Duda apologized to the Jews who suffered from persecution in 1968. He stressed that "the free and independent today's Poland is not responsible for what happened and should not apologize," but nevertheless asked for forgiveness for Poland and the Poles.

This is reported by News-N referring to the Times of Israel.

Such a statement was made by Duda at a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of large-scale student protests against the Polish communist government.

After the strike in Poland, a campaign was launched against the Jews. They were declared the "fifth column", because of what they were forced to leave Poland.

According to reports, about 13,000 Jews fled from Poland.
